Arsenal Kick Off Their Premier League Day With A Thrilling Start

Arsenal kicked off the 2017/18 Premier League season with a Friday night thriller against Leicester City as they won 4-3 courtesy of a dramatic late comeback.

Arsene Wenger named a very attacking-minded starting line-up for the clash with the Foxes as summer signing Alexandre Lacazette was teamed up with a fit-again Mesut Ozil.
And Arsenal’s new striker got off to a flying start, scoring with a well-placed header, less than two minutes after the kick-off. It was the start which Arsene Wenger had asked for but what followed was a reminder of familiar woes.
A deep Leicester cross left Arsenal’s defence and Petr Cech looking desperate and Shinji Okazaki took full advantage by heading home an equalizer for the away side, only minutes after they had gone behind.
The Gunners then managed to pile the pressure on Craig Shakespeare’s side but the next goal came from Leicester and it was quite a sucker-punch indeed as Jamie Vardy guided home a low cross.
But Arsenal managed to even the score right on the stroke of half-time as Sead Kolasinac handed the ball over to Danny Welbeck from close-range for him to place it home.
The home side returned from the break with more urgency but their problems remained costly at the other end as Vardy scored a third for Leicester from a corner.
However, just when Wenger’s men appeared to be heading for another opening day defeat, goals from substitutes Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud turned matters around for a 4-3 victory.

Danny Rose Fined For Explosive Interview

Following his explosive interview in The Sun on Thursday, Danny Rose remains a hot topic on the back of English papers.
Danny Rose continues to trend on social media and there now seems little doubt that everyone knows about the wage issues at Tottenham now.
The English press is in agreement: Danny Rose’s interview has been backed by his Tottenham team mates and The Sun claim the left back was “applauded” into the dressing room.
“A hero’s welcome”
Dave Kidd, who interviewed Rose for The Sun, and has a long term relationship with the Spurs left back writes that “got a hero’s welcome from a mutinous Tottenham dressing room.”
Spurs director of football operations Rebecca Caplehorn fined Danny Rose two weeks wages and the player was forced to apologise for his comments.
Tottenham fans meanwhile are bracing themselves for what now seem like inevitable bids from Chelsea and Manchester United to test the waters.
Will Danny Rose join Chelsea?
Immediately after the Danny Rose interview, both Manchester United and Chelsea were linked with the left wing back.
Whilst it was thought Rose was keen to move back up north, Chelsea are being pushed hard by the English press on Friday.
Matt Hughes and Gary Jacob report in
The Times: “The England left back is prepared to push for a move to Chelsea this month if the Premier League champions follow up on their initial interest with a firm bid.”
Manchester United won’t move for Rose this month
Considering Chelsea and Spurs basically don’t do transfer business with each other and Rose has a long contract, it is virtually impossible to see Rose depart for West London.
Especially as Rose would cost over 50 million pounds and the Blues already have Marcos Alonso.
Manchester United look much more likely. Rose can play up north. And, the Red Devils have a player in Luke Shaw, that Mauricio Pochettino knows well and is a direct replacement.
So, in some good news for Spurs, The Times report that “they are not expected to make an offer this month.”
The smart money remains on Rose staying for one more season at Spurs before moving to Manchester United after 2017/2018.

Man United Ahead Of Chelsea In Signing Full Back

It looks like Manchester United have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Serge Aurier as Goal claim the Paris Saint-Germain full-back is set to move to Old Trafford on a five-year deal.
Aurier has been tipped to leave the Parc des Princes following the arrival of Dani Alves from Juventus and he was omitted from PSG’s pre-season tour in order to secure a move this summer.
The Ivory Coast international has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks with both Chelsea and Man Utd touted as potential suitors in the media.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Chelsea were looking to hijack United’s attempts to sign Aurier with PSG ready to do business if £27m was put on the table.
Antonio Conte is in the market for another attack-minded right-back to compete with Victor Moses in the wing-back role and Aurier has been earmarked after the Blues missed out on Danilo to Man City.

Fresh New Offer For Arsenal Star

It seems that Chelsea are willing to do up their price in other to see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Stamford Bridge. Report claims that Chelsea has increased their bid from £25m to £35m.
Arsené Wenger has shut down rumours about the versatile winger leaving but with Oxlade-Chamberlain refusing to sign a  new contract with the Gunner's, Arsenal will have no choice than to sell him or face letting him go for free next season.

Liverpool Rejects €100m offer for Coutinho

Liverpool have again told
Barcelona that Philippe Coutinho is not for sale after rejecting a €100m (£90m) bid for the Brazil international. Barcelona’s second offer, comprising €85m plus €15m in add-ons, was immediately rejected by the Anfield club.
The Spanish giants returned with their latest bid for the 25-year-old on Wednesday having had an initial offer of €80m (£72m) rejected last month. It was met with the same response. Liverpool rejected the offer, reiterated to Barcelona that they will not consider selling their influential playmaker this summer and, despite reports in Spain that a deal is imminent, consider the matter closed.
Whether that deters Barcelona from making a third offer remains to be seen, as their latest approach does reflect a confidence at the Nou Camp that Coutinho is keen on making the move. Liverpool have repeatedly stated the Brazilian will not be sold with manager Jürgen Klopp insisting last week that his club’s position is not open to interpretation. Their position is strengthened by the five-year contract that Coutinho signed only last season. That deal, worth around £150,000 a week, does not include a release clause.

Tanzania ‘witch killings’ claimed 479 lives from January – June 2017

Five women accused of being witches and murdered by a mob last week were among some 80 people killed each month in Tanzania this year by vigilantes taking the law into their own hands, a report said Monday.

Thousands of elderly Tanzanian women have been strangled, knifed to death and burned alive over the last two decades after being denounced as witches.

The report published by the Dar es Salaam-based rights group Legal and Human Rights Centre showed 479 deaths related to mob justice reported in Tanzania from January to June this year, including women accused of witchcraft.

Helen Kijo-Bisimba, the centre’s executive director, said human rights abuses had risen in the past year, which she blamed partly on restrictions on freedoms following President John Magufuli’s order to ban political activities until 2020.

Belief in witchcraft in the East African country dates back centuries as a way of explaining common misfortunes like death, failed harvests and infertility.

Charly Boy Brutalised By Police In Yesterday's Protest

Renowned crusader and maverick singer, Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy, has said that he was brutalised during the protest organised on Tuesday at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
Oputa said that one of the anti-riot policemen, who attacked the protesters with tear-gas and water cannons, hit him in the eye with the butt of his rifle.
He said, “We were not even up to 10 people that set out for the Unity Fountain. When we got there, we met close to 200 policemen.
“Initially, they tried to stop us from going further. But we explained to them that ours would be a peaceful demonstration. I gave them the assurance that we were not going anywhere else and the protest would not be hijacked by hoodlums.
“Before we knew it, they started with the water cannon. Then they tear-gassed us and set their dogs against us.
“Worried, I went to one of the policemen who was standing near me and asked him why they resorted to such action. Instead of responding to me, he suddenly raised the butt of his gun and hit me in the eye.”
Oputa said he was immediately rushed to a clinic for treatment. But he expressed concern over the health of another victim, a TV journalist, said to be severely beaten up by the police.
“I saw them beating up that man and smashing his camera. I hope they have not killed him,” he said.
AreaFada, as Oputa is fondly called said the attack would not stop him from leading the protest.
“We are coming out tomorrow. It is better they kill me now because I will never stop speaking for the masses of this country,” he said.

Coutinho To Move To Barcelona Soon

Barcelona are ready to cash in more than half of the money they got from Neymar's transfer if they can get Coutinho to sign with them.  £120 million transfer fee could shake Liverpool's resolve to hold the player and that's what Barcelona is offering. Philippe Coutinho  has been linked to the Barcelona team since the beginning of the summer transfer and could well be on his way next week. Neymar's departure from Nou Camp has seen Barca running around to try and find a suitable midfielder to replace him and Coutinho was the utmost choice. Hazard has also been linked to Barcelona but if this deal goes through, it will no doubt be bring a sigh of relief from Chelsea fans.

PSG Ready To Pay £80 Million For Arsenal Star

PSG has made their desire known to Sanchez that they want him this summer. They are reportedly ready to pay the sum of £80 million to sign the Chilean away from the gunners. They are also willing to offer him up to £400,000 a week to convince him to join them.
Manchester City is tipped to sign Alexis, as Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the upcoming season. Alexis Sanchez looks to want to make a move away from Arsenal FC as he has shown no willingness to sign a new contract with the Gunners, with a £250,000 wage per week in card.
He'll have to wait till the end of next season to leave for free to any club he wants, Man City being his choice.
